In This Moment

“As you walk and eat and travel, be where you are. Otherwise you will miss most of your life.”

Jack Kornfield

On  Friday morning, before Harvey hit Texas, I sat in my hotel room in need of inspiration and wrote the following blog, and doing so helped me to get my head and my life back to where i was at that moment…

By the time you read this of course, things will be different, with the hurricane’s damage well underway.

This blog is in no way written to diminish the pain that often goes with great harm or difficulty.. Yet, I wanted to share it with you, as it hit me that people in hurricane and flood country and families affected by a loved one’s addictive struggles have a lot in common, especially sharing that feeling of uncertainty…

Uncertainty, in fact, is something all humans share…Yet, sometimes it takes the experience of possible impending doom or seeing others’ tragedies to remind us of the precious moment-by-moment nature of all of life.

In this moment…

In this time…

In this place…

All is well.

The ability to breathe in and out means I can be mindful even in difficult situations.

The ability to use my brain to clarify situations and plan solutions means I can assess, deliberate and evaluate.

The ability to understand the difference between what I can change and what I cannot means I can have wisdom.

To know and to live by the adage: “In this moment, all is well’, is to express a deep understanding of the temporary nature of our lives on this planet.

To live well in each moment does not guarantee length of days, pain free lives, or unlimited prosperity.

To live well in each moment is to surrender all expectations and trepidations,  in exchange for a moment of peace, a moment of  awareness and a moment of love.

For after all, this moment is all we have and all we are promised.

“Look at everything as if you were seeing it either for the first or last time.

Then your time on Earth will be filled with glory.”
