With Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, around the corner, it’s natural to think back over the past year. We’ve all had moments we wish had gone differently. But the New Year season gives us a chance to start fresh. It’s a time to reflect, move forward with purpose, and offer love and understanding to those who might be struggling, especially those dealing with addiction or mental health challenges.
At BALM Family Recovery, we know how difficult it can be to watch someone you love go struggle and not know how to help. The BALM (Be A Loving Mirror®) method is about showing up with love, patience, and understanding rather than anger, judgment, or shame. This approach doesn’t just support your loved one’s healing; it also helps you find peace and strength in yourself.
Rosh Hashanah, and the entire High Holiday season, give us the opportunity to reflect on the past and then focus on the future we want to create. In the BALM Family Recovery Program, participants learn that family recovery is not about trying to fix someone else’s problems. It’s about being present for them with love and compassion, and learning new ways to relate that will allow you to be their BEST chance at recovery. Your educated support can make all the difference, even when it feels impossible.
As you dip your apples in honey this year and pray for sweetness ahead, notice how healing and connection can happen even in the hardest times, for ourselves, our families, and the world.
As you consider getting help in creating a healthier, more loving dynamic within your family, along with the possibility of helping your loved one achieve recovery, we are here for you. If you are already enrolled in the BALM, we invite you to fully use all that the BALM offers in its classes, workshops, and groups. And utilize your BALM coach to help you relate all of what you are learning to your particular situation.
Shana Tova Umetukah – May you have a good and sweet new year!
Love Bev, Alan, and the whole BALM Team!
