Growing Together – The BALM® Offers New Opportunities to Deepen YOUR Family Recovery

BALM | October 6, 2019

As the BALM® Program approaches its 10th year of helping families recover, we are  humbled both by the stories of so many families finding a path to healing through the BALM® and by the need to  reach so many more who are out there still suffering and not knowing that help is even available for them and their loved ones.

At the same time, we are deepening from within.  I’d like to share with you today about two new programs we have added this year.

During the weekend of October 11-14, we will have our first in-person family recovery retreat. This weekend is designed to help families and professionals come together to deepen their understanding of the BALM® Principles and Steps in order to further their experience of getting their own lives back and helping their loved ones get their lives back as well.

To make this happen, we are taking a highly experiential approach to the work. My co-facilitator Michael DeForbes and I have been working tirelessly to create a meaningful weekend for our participants to take their BALM® work to the next level, while giving them the rest and repose of a retreat in a beautiful setting.

Grateful to Michael and to all the participants for coming together for a powerful gathering that will hopefully be the first of many BALM® retreats in communities around the country and globe in the months and years to come!

On another note, we are also looking at an aspect of family recovery relevant to all: Grief Work. While this is often thought of as something important only to those who have lost a loved one to a Substance Use Disorder, we are providing for both families of those with loved ones who are alive and those who have lost someone, with an opportunity to do the inner work of healing from the grief of loss in any of its many forms.

This is not to minimize the vast sorrow of actually losing a loved one to SUD, but rather to allow for all family members to face and deal with the sorrows that are part of living with use disorders and other traumas of living head on, with courage and determination.

When family members look  at and are willing to go deep within to feel the impact of the loss of the dream of what they thought their life would be like without SUD, great healing can and often does take place. The shift to a deeper appreciation for each moment as it unfolds, the forgiveness that inevitably occurs, the completion of unfinished conversations, relationships, understandings; all of these create a renewal from the inside out that allows family members to take their healing to new levels.

While the retreat is about to happen, there are still a few spots left. So if you would like to take your family recovery to the next level, click here.

As for the Grief Recovery Support Group, the next one starts on Monday, November 18th, 8:00 pm – 9:15 pm ET, and goes for 8 weeks (with time off for holidays) until January 20th. Those who choose to participate in the group during this time period,  will have the distinct opportunity to get support weekly before, during and after the holiday season, when so many difficult situations and feelings often arise.

Looking forward to seeing you online and in person as we move forward as a community of family recovery!

Be A Loving Mirror!

Love,

Bev
