LIVE CALL

Focus: Principle 6: Your Primary Task is To Be A Loving Person

Host: Lori Bolen

Guest: Amanda Snidow

Amanda is the mother of seven children and lives in southwest Virginia. She was motivated to learn more about mental health needs after her family grew by adopting a sibling group of three boys, all with significant trauma backgrounds and disabilities. Later in her journey, Amanda educated herself further as her children began struggling with such challenges as Borderline Personality Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Addiction.

She took these challenges, educated herself, and found a career in which she can use those experiences to carry hope for other families in the Appalachian region. Amanda is employed as a Family Support Partner with her local community service board, where she uses her lived experience to support other families currently in crises. She is also a Registered Certified Peer Recovery Specialist with the Virginia Board of Counseling. She is known for her ability to bridge the gap between families and providers, helping bring understanding of each other's perspective. Her career highlights include multiple certifications in High Fidelity Wraparound and FREDLA Parent Peer Support. She is passionate about educating herself, and has completed many certifications in WRAP/APPR, Mental Health Frist Aid, THINK Kids Collaborative Problem Solving, and ASIST suicide prevention. Amanda regularly takes the education, resources and experiences she has encountered and gives back to her local community. Her future goals include progressing further through the BALM Facilitation program and bringing family recovery resources into the community and local churches.

Amanda first learned about the BALM philosophy when searching for more information to support her adult daughter's addiction battle. Two months after discovering BALM, her first grandchild was born six weeks early, exposed to multiple substances. This led Amanda to dive head first into the BALM program, knowing a deeper level of education and support was needed. She was motivated to learn as much about family recovery as possible, completing the 12 Principles and 7 Steps professional training, as well as private coaching. While this was happening, Amanda unexpectedly lost her mother and gained custody of her grandson in the span of one week. The BALM was a vital support in the midst of those layered events. Amanda has been able to use the principles to model healthy family relations. The BALM has taught Amanda, more than anything, how to maintain connection with others in a way that contributes to recovery - while also maintaining her own well being and needs.

When not working or caring for her kiddos, she enjoys being outside in nature, playing pickleball, and going to concerts. She loves music and sees it as a gift to support healing and growth. Amanda looks forward to sharing her journey with others to inspire hope and healing.
